elementary math

The primary goal of this course is to introduce and solidify the basic math knowledge of students. They will learn numbers, various operations on fractions and decimals, percentages, and units. We will go over learning basic concepts in geometry, including measuring and drawing angles, and strengthening their knowledge of whole numbers and their operations. Rounding, simplifying fractions, least common multiples, and great common factors are covered as well. We will enable children to explore the different approaches to arrive at the right answer. Basic statistics and concepts such as probability, charts, and graphs are also discussed. Course units contain quizzes and tests to evaluate the student’s progress and mastery.

Elementary math is the foundation of most subjects; however, understanding math can be very intimidating and difficult for most students. There are already a lot of tutorials, documentation, and advice out there about how students study math effectively, so students are pulled in multiple directions and end up feeling confused and overwhelmed.

I have spent a lot of time deconstructing what it takes to learn math from scratch: what it is that students should focus on first, and what methods they should master.

*This is a hybrid course; some lectures will be held online/offline only.
