“Knowing the past helps you better understand the present.”
We have been hearing about a well-known “big pit” in downtown Los Angeles for a long time; however, it is too busy to visit currently, so that makes today a good opportunity for our teachers and students to visit La Brea Tar Pits and Museum: a natural asphalt pit that is a wonderful nature museum. Fossilized bones and specimens of mammals, reptiles, and even birds are a faithful record of prehistoric Los Angeles. We observed the site where scientists are currently digging and visited the open lab. By talking with the researchers, the students received a comprehensive understanding of the careers of paleontologists and museologists. It turns out that knowing the past helps you better understand the present.
