Visit Impressionists And Abstract Artists – Norton Simon Museum
Today is the last day before the winter break. Our teacher took the students to visit the long-awaited Norton Simon Museum. This art museum is not the grandest in star-studded Southern California, but its art collection is all very unique. It is nearly the largest collection of impressionist and abstract paintings, containing pieces from Monet, Vincent Van Gogh, Degas, to Picasso—each painting is a story from the artist.
Sculptures from the West and the East is also a feature of the museum, with finely carved chess pieces that elicit gasps and awe from the students, and the beautifully crafted Buddha statues that come from Nepal—the southern foothills of the Himalayas.
“By the wishing fountain, our students make their best wishes for all the people.”
In the backyard of the museum, there is a small garden. Winter is not the time for water lilies to bloom, but it is still warm enough in the Southern California winter that there is still some greenery; a new year is coming. By the wishing fountain, our students make their best wishes for all the people.
